CapPlan Inpatient Program

The following sections are an overview of the CapPlan Inpatient Planning Training Program

Prerequisites

Attendees must have attended the following training courses

  • Introduction to the CapPlan Solution

Attendees will be involved in the Inpatient planning process.

Maximum Numbers

We restrict our courses to a maximum of six attendees per session to allow the trainer to provide ‘hands on’ instruction for our attendees, except for Module One which we restrict to a maximum of 15 attendees.

Objectives

The CapPlan Planning process provides the tools and methodology necessary to forecast hospital inpatient demand over a number of time horizons, and proactively match resources to meet this demand.

On completion of the training attendees should be able to do the following:

  • Understand the CapPlan Planning process including planning assumptions, roles and responsibilities, and planning deliverables.
  • Create and interpret historic demand data to support the planning process.
  • Create an annual Demand Forecast
  • Develop an annual Bed and Staffing Plan
  • Monitor and adjust Annual demand and resource plans to support roster planning and report on Key Planning Performance

Module One - Introduction to Capacity Planning

Overview

This course gives a review of the CapPlan Planning process and an understanding of the planning roles and responsibilities, planning assumptions and planning outcomes required to create an Annual plan.

Prerequisites

Attendees must have attended the following training courses

  • Introduction to the CapPlan Solution

Who Should Attend

Introduction to the Capacity Planning is recommended for those whose roles are involved with the planning process. These typically include Planners/Business Analysts, Service Management, Nurse Management, General Management & Charge Nurses.

Objectives

On completion of the training attendees should be able to do the following:

  • Understand the CapPlan Planning process
  • Able to identify the CapPlan data structure
  • Understand the roles associated with the CapPlan Planning process
  • High level undestanding of the CapPlan forecast methodology

Module Two - CapPlan Demand Planning

Overview

This course examines the technical processes required to create and document an Annual Patient Demand forecast.

Prerequisites

Attendees must have attended the following training courses

  • Module One - Introduction to Capacity Planning

Attendees will be required to have access to a PC or Laptop computer.

Who Should Attend

This course is recommended for those people involved with the creation of annual demand plans in the CapPlan software. This typically includes Planners, Business Analysts and IT Specialists.

Objectives

On completion of the training attendees should be able to do the following:

  • Clean historical data using manual adjustments
  • Analyse CapPlan historical reports to determine baseline planning assumptions
  • Create an initial demand forecast using historical data
  • Update demand forecasts to include all planning assumptions
  • Produce an Annual Patient Demand plan for stakeholder approval and signoff

Module Three - CapPlan Resource Planning

Overview

This course examines the technical processes required to create and document an Annual Resource Plan for both beds and staff.

Prerequisites

Attendees must have attended the following training courses

  • Module One - Introduction to Capacity Planning
  • Module Two - CapPlan Demand Planning

Attendees will have an intermediate knowledge of Windows applications such as Excel.

Attendees will be required to have access to a PC or Laptop computer.

Who Should Attend

This course is recommended for those people involved in the creation of annual resource plans in the CapPlan software. This typically includes Planners, Business Analysts and IT Specialists.

Objectives

On completion of the training attendees should be able to do the following:

  • Examine the possible approaches to bed planning
  • Review the assumptions around translating patient demand into resources
  • Agree beds between CapPlan Planning Groups
  • Set beds at the ward level
  • Produce an Annual Bed Plan for stakeholder approval and signoff
  • Review the assumptions around staff planning
  • Produce an Annual Staff Plan for stakeholder approval and signoff

Module Four - Operationalizing CapPlan Plans

Overview

This course examines the technical processes required to monitor and adjust annual demand and resource plans to support roster planning and report on Key Planning Performance Indicators to hospital stakeholders.

Prerequisites

Attendees must have attended the following training courses

  • Module One - Introduction to Capacity Planning
  • Module Two - CapPlan Demand Planning
  • Module Three - CapPlan Resource Planning

Attendees will have an intermediate knowledge of Windows applications such as Excel.

Attendees will be required to have access to a PC or Laptop computer.

Who Should Attend

This course is recommended for those people involved in the creation of roster and operational plans in the CapPlan software. This typically includes Planners, Business Analysts and IT Specialists.

Objectives

On completion of the training attendees should be able to do the following:

  • Create and analyse weekly and monthly reports
  • Review of cleaning historic data
  • Create Roster or Operational demand plans from Budget plans
  • Agree beds between CapPlan Planning Groups at the Roster or Operational level
  • Set beds at the ward level and the Roster or Operational level
  • Produce a Roster Bd Plan for stakeholder approval and signoff
  • Produce a Roster Staff Plan for stakeholder approval and signoff
