CapPlan is a capacity planning tool that uses forecasting and real time data to match staff and physical resources to workload. The trust piloted the tool in October 2006 and, following its success, decided to adopt it permanently.

In a ceremony in London last week, Emendo's software-based planning tool CapPlan, which helps manage hospital activity and resources, won the national award given out by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and the Department of Health.

The Technology Fast 500 list is compiled from Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 Asia Pacific programs, nominations submitted directly to the Technology Fast 500, and public company database research. To qualify for the Technology Fast 500, entrants must have had first year operating revenues of at least US$50,000.

Emendo uses a range of mathematical algorithms to predict patient numbers days in advance, allowing hospitals to allocate operating theatres, roster staff and use bed space efficiently.
