Urban or rural, CapPlan makes a difference

While CapPlan makes the greatest difference in healthcare organisations with 100 beds or more, the ability to provide ‘live’ visibility across all central and regional hospitals large and small is one of the most powerful benefits of the technology.

Increasingly, strategies in Health are moving towards centralisation and the creation of specialist hubs. Here in New Zealand the whole National Health Board structure will be about best use regionally and nationally.

Looking ‘beyond my hospital’ is already happening, and determining where patients will be diverted to will be driven by the technology available in the hospitals.

Wellington hospital, for example, is currently struggling with oncology demand, so there will be a natural flow of patients to hospitals elsewhere in the country.

Hospitals are more frequently transferring patients to smaller hospitals to help them meet demand.

The Christchurch hospital, for instance, has a live view of what’s happening in Burwood and Ashburton hospitals, and if necessary patients can be transferred there.

Currently, part of CapPlan’s rollouts in Australia is regional service management, as well as managing the capacity within each hospital. It’s a natural evolution.
