Helping hospitals to meet their funding and contractual obligations

31 May 2010

Nick BurnsTypically within Health Authorities there is a party that determines how much funding a hospital will be allocated.

Usually this spend will be broken down by speciality and driven by particular activities. For example, at a simple level, if waiting lists in orthopaedics are too long, they might allocate money to have more activity in this speciality.

With the expectation that there will be more patients going through the orthopaedic area, CapPlan can advise what capacity the hospital will need to meet that obligation, and then help operational staff to manage the additional beds and resources required.

CapPlan shows what the theatre sessions look like and where the beds they need are compared to the capacity they have. It allows staff to determine in advance, and in any particular inpatient area, whether they will have enough beds to achieve their plan.

If no beds are available, staff can review their plans and look at where they can make accommodations, such as modifying the time of day they do the surgeries, which can change the hospital flow.
