Emendo’s Pedigree

Emendo was established in 2002 by Nick Burns and Bart Visscher, both of whom come with a long experience in operations research and with considerable expertise in applying these skills to the healthcare industry.

The company formed as a consulting practise specialising in operational efficiency improvements in the hospital sector, and in 2003 a significant need was identified for a set of tools that allowed hospitals to manage resources better by applying management science techniques to predict patient demand and to plan and manage hospitals proactively. A program of research and development was established with one of New Zealand’s largest health providers, Canterbury District Health Board, and in late 2005 the first version of CapPlan was implemented at their 650 bed Christchurch hospital.

In 2005 New Zealand based angel investors Holliday Corporation invested in Emendo. Dave Tinkler and Phil Holliday, co-owners of Holliday Corporation, brought with them many years of experience of growing software start-ups and internationalizing them. In 2008 Holliday Corporation’s belief in the potential of Emendo was further underlined when Dave Tinkler was appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer.

The resultant merged management team is a very effective mix of those experienced with growing export led businesses and those with in depth domain knowledge of the health sector.

The bringing together of Emendo’s founder’s deep health sector knowledge and operational expertise with Holliday Corporation’s experience of having grown, internationalized and exited software companies has produced a management team that is well equipped to enable Emendo to continue to grow rapidly.

Since the first release of the CapPlan software in 2005, Emendo has enjoyed solid year on year growth. CapPlan is relied on in hospitals throughout New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom and Canada. In 2010 Emendo has established a US presence.
